In the United States, they were afraid of the new Russian weapon of the apocalypse

In the United States, they were afraid of the latest Russian super torpedo.

The newest nuclear torpedoes "Poseidon", created by Russia, are weapons of enormous destructive power. An article in the American magazine Popular Mechanics indicates that each torpedo has a yield of about two megatons, and is also equipped with a liquid metal nuclear reactor, which allows for high speed and an almost unlimited range of movement.

The journalist notes that, despite Western skepticism about Russia's technical capabilities, Poseidon torpedoes will soon be deployed off the coast of the Pacific Ocean, which directly threatens US naval bases in the region, as well as cities on the US west coast, such as Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco.

It is assumed that the nuclear warhead will go off directly in the intended harbor or base, which will lead to huge destruction. At the same time, the article notes that the destruction from the Poseidon nuclear warhead will be less than from the nuclear warhead of an intercontinental missile.

Russian President Vladimir Putin first announced the development of the Poseidon torpedo in his 2018 address to the Federal Assembly. According to him, these underwater unmanned vehicles can hit a variety of targets, including aircraft carrier groups, coastal fortifications and infrastructure. The Poseidons are expected to be installed on the Belgorod and Khabarovsk multi-purpose nuclear submarines, the characteristics of which have not been disclosed.

Russian representatives claim that they have no aggressive intentions towards other states. At the same time, they argue that the West aims at confrontation and expansion by incorporating new countries into the North Atlantic alliance and destabilizing borders.

However, the situation with the development and deployment of Poseidon nuclear torpedoes is of concern to the international community and is another tense moment in international relations. In turn, the United States and its allies express concern about new developments in the field of nuclear weapons and the improvement of their means of delivery.
